Stepping into the Ryman Auditorium, you can feel the history soaked into every wooden seat and beam. This is where the Grand ‘Ole Opry started, and consequently became the ‘soul of Nashville’ and the most famous stage in country music. Indeed, this is where Dolly Parton was inducted into the ‘Opry back in the ’70s, something she commented on in the press conference before the show, saying that no matter where in the world she plays, she imagines she’s at the Ryman, since it is such a special place for her.

Eric Church, Ascend Amphitheatre, Nashville – Gig Review

Nashville was host to a truly special night on Thursday, with the grand opening of a brand new music venue, the Ascend Amphitheatre, being christened by a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to see Eric Church perform a completely acoustic set. As
Eric put it to the audience: ‘you ain’t never gonna see this again’.

Montgomery and Selma, AL

Alabama is definitely the hottest place I’ve ever experienced. Arriving early, at about 9AM, the temperature was already topping 30 degrees, rising to a minimum of 40 as the day went on! This would be a bit of a trend over the next two days as I would sweat out litres as I tramped around the streets of Montgomery and Selma. By the end I was going into museums (and bars) just to get out of the sun!

Savannah, GA

After the amazing atmosphere and elegant beauty of Charleston, I was expecting something of the same in Savannah, only more quaint. As one of the more progressive cities during American history it didn’t seem to have much of a civil rights impact past the civil war, and so I wasn’t expecting much cerebral activity, more of a visit seeing much beauty and relaxing with a drink of some description.

Dierks Bentley, Kip Moore, Maddie and Tae and Canaan Smith, PNC Pavilion, Charlotte NC – gig review
